The Sacramento City Council Budget Committee has identified the priorities it wants City Manager John Shirey to consider when he draws up next year's budget.
Mayor Kevin Johnson is the chair of the committee. He presented a list of items today he says represent the "ideals" of the council. The list includes the usual items: safety, economy, young people, transportation, good goverance, arts, and civic amenities.
But, the committee says the City should pay more attention to areas that are struggling financially.
"I think there's parts of the city that don't have the same city services or programs or resources that the rest of the city has and I think we as a body not just this budget audit committee but as a council that lens is going to be really. Important for priority neighborhoods," says Mayor Johnson.
The committee is scheduled to present its priorities to the council on Tuesday with the understanding that the city manager will consider them when proposing budget changes.
