The American Connection


It is no coincidence that three of Aaron Copland's most powerful works -- Appalachian Spring, Fanfare for the Common Man, and A Lincoln Portrait -- date from the years of America's engagement in World War II.

In this hour, a celebration of American ideas and ideals by Copland -- and several of his fellow composers -- that gave expression to a sense of national character and purpose during wartime.
