Nurses for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California are scheduled to strike Tuesday and Wednesday.
Eighteen-thousand nurses plan to walk off the job, starting in about an hour. The move will affect 21 hospitals and 35 clinics. Kaiser says its health facilities will remain open during the strike, though some elective procedures and appointments may have to be rescheduled.
The nurses and Kaiser have been unable to agree on a new contract. The sides have disagreed over unfilled nursing vacancies, working conditions and training opportunities.
