Playlist for Waking Up

(I have no trouble going to sleep. Waking up is a different story.)

  • Sara Gazarek, “My Shining Hour,” Yours: Even a sworn pessimist like me can feel a little more optimistic hearing this recording. Save this for a Monday.

  • Lorraine Feather, “Traffic and Weather,” Language: I mentioned this on Sound Advice a few months ago. It’s a funny, witty song, but it’s also a pretty accurate traffic report for the Bay Area at any given time. Win-win.

  • Diana Krall, “I Love Being Here With You,” Live in Paris: I usually don’t like live albums. The audio’s never to my liking, the songs aren’t anything I couldn’t hear on an album I already have, etc. But I love Krall’s live album and her version of this standard is wonderfully energetic.

  • Chie Imaizumi, “The More the Merrier” Unfailingly Kindness: This tune sounds like it could be the theme song for an NPR show. It’s catchy as all get-out.
