News Anchor/Editor
Summary
Capital Public Radio is looking for a seasoned newsroom manager. The News Anchor/Editor prepares and presents daily afternoon newscasts for All Things Considered, using content developed based on daily assignments and on demands of breaking news. The NA/E works with reporters to refine or redefine stories as they evolve, and edits reporter wraps, cut/copy stories and copy. The NA/E will work with web content managers to assure online content is correct and current. As needed, the NA/E will conduct "live" debrief segments that will satisfy the format requirements. This will include planning with reporters for debriefs on significant news stories. The NA/E is responsible for a daily evening-to-morning handoff of news stories.
Duties
Job responsibilities include editing spot and other news content, assigning reporters to developing stories, responding to breaking/developing news stories, securing content from freelancers or networks sources and preparing for air and the web, anchoring afternoon newscasts, preparing a daily handoff of stories available for the following morning, monitoring and coordinating digital news content, producing spots and interviews, overseeing designated newsroom positions.
Qualifications
Minimum five years full-time professional, progressively responsible experience in radio news. Management experience preferred; a four-year degree or equivalent experience required.
High level newsroom management abilities; advanced copy editing and broadcast writing skills. Demonstrated ability to perform in a "live" program environment, delivering live newscasts and breaking news. Computer literate; familiar with technology platforms and ways to utilize them effectively in reporting projects. Must be available for late edits. Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
