The California portion of the "Keeping Families Together" tour is part of a national effort that will culminate in Washington D.C.
The tour is taking place as Congress considers comprehensive immigration legislation.
Daniel Jiménez of Bakersfield says immigrants deserve a path to citizenship. He says his mother, who is not a citizen, wants a chance to go to college.
Jiménez: "That's something she is not able to do without immigration reform. That's why I'm here today. That's why I'm fighting for her, that's why I'm fighting for me, that's why I'm fighting for many other people in the same situation. We're not asking for anything but justice."
Several California lawmakers have authored a joint resolution urging Congress and the President to improve the nation's immigration system.
They say Congress should listen to California, the state with the nation's largest immigrant population.
