Sequestration Impact on Counties Now that the
sequester is in full effect, how has it impacted Sacramento
County's Health and Human Services department? We'll
talk with Dr. Sherri Heller, director of the department, about the
cuts and what her department is facing. We'll also speak with David
Morikowa, program director for Meals on Wheels, about the impact to the
meal-delivery organization.
Silver Award Cadette Girl Scout troop 2153 in
the Arden area of Sacramento is the process of completing their
Silver Awards, which is the highest achievement you can earn as a
Cadette. The troop - made up of eighth graders - have spent the
past two years working on a Take Action/community service project
at the Sacramento
Children's Museum to help kids improve their eating habits.
We'll talk with some of the troop members about the program and why
they decided to take this project on.
County Realignment California's county jails
are stuck between a rock and hard place. Realignment is keeping
jail officials from sending inmates to overpopulated state prisons
while lawmakers are seeking tougher penalties for parole violations
and other crimes. That leaves counties deciding whether to release
parole violators or detainees awaiting sentencing. Here to discuss
how Sacramento County is dealing with the situation is Sheriff Scott Jones.
