School Closures - A number of elementary
school parents are upset over the possibility that their child's
school may be closing its doors at the end of this school
year. The Sacramento City Unified School District is set
to vote on a plan Feb. 21 that will close 10 elementary
schools around the district in an attempt to counteract lagging
enrollment and budget shortfalls. A second vote will be held
March 7 to determine the fates of Tahoe
Elementary School and Mark
Twain Elementary. Tahoe was the 11th school on the closure list
but it's being reconsidered after complaints from parents and a
less than ideal lunch schedule at Mark Twain. We'll talk about the
various issues facing the district with Superintendent Jonathan Raymond and parent
Mandy Carillo.
Valentine's Day - Select store owners in the Sacramento Region are getting a bump in sales this Valentine's Day, even if that extra business comes at the cost of a bump in blood pressure for procrastinating romantics. We'll speak with restauranter Biba Caggiano about the rush of business they get from last minute crowds looking to keep their Valentine's Day a pleasant one.
