Insight: State Budget Announcement / Zoom / Sound Advice: Rachel Barton Pine / State Budget Recap

State Budget Announcement On Tuesday, Governor Jerry Brown rejected court-driven mandates to further cut the prison population, saying instead that he will propose a "live-within-our-means" budget on Thursday that spends more money on higher education and K-12 schools in the next fiscal year. "Most people want to spend more money than the state has, and I will tell you 2013 is the year of fiscal discipline and living within our means," Brown said.  This morning, we'll stream the Governor's budget announcement and hear the specifics of his state spending plan for the 2013-14 fiscal year, which begins on July 1. State legislative analyst Steve Boilard joins us.

Zoom! Are you needing an extra boost of healthy motivation this year?  The National Danish Performance Team just might do it with their performance that intends to "move the world towards healthy living, self-empowerment and community building."  They're returning to Sacramento this weekend with a new show "Zoom" at the Memorial Auditorium.  The 14-man, 14-woman team of 20-26 year olds combine a variety of modern gymnastics, dance, cheer, artist vaulting, tumbling, and high-energy acrobatics, creating a show that's nothing short of stunning.  They'll be performing at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento on Saturday, January 12th at 7:30pm.

Sound Advice: Rachel Barton Pine Violinist Rachel Barton Pine has broken through every possible stereotype people may have of a modern classical musician. From appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 10, to playing at the 1996 Democratic Convention, her journey her journey has been successful, even when marred by a severe train accident that injured both her legs. We'll talk with Rachel about her musical influences, one of whom is long-time mentor Michael Morgan, music director and principal conductor of the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra.  Rachel is performing with the Philharmonic and critically acclaimed Northern California composer Nolan Glasser on January 12 at 7:30pm.

State Budget Recap Earlier in the show, we streamed Gov. Jerry Brown's announcement of his 2013-14 spending plan.  We'll check in for a recap with Capitol Bureau Chief Ben Adler, who was on the scene.
