The California Civic Engagement Project at UC Davis says more 18-to24 year-old Californians registered as Democrats compared to any other party, but nearly three in ten registered Decline to State.
Project Director Mindy Romero says the Republican and Democratic parties can no longer take some votes for granted, "Without being officially affiliated with the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, their votes have to be courted in a different way and can not necessarily be guaranteed."
Ten percent of young people registered with a third political party, which is twice the average of the general electorate.
