Bear Valley Mountain Ski Resort normally opens its season on December 21st.
But that's the date the world ends according to the ancient Mayan calendar.
Marketing Director Rosie Sundell decided why take a chance, so the ski resort opens a day earlier, December 20th, the day before doomsday.
SUNDELL: "They'll have their last day of enjoyment up in the mountains, should be a good way to end it."
Most skiers are skeptical that the end is near, but perhaps as
many as 2,000 are expected to show up for that last run down the
slopes before the apocalypse, especially since skiing will be free
that day.
SUNDELL: "Well after last year, a low snow year, we thought let's generate excitement, who's dying to get up and skiing, what better incentive than to come up for free."
And if the world does end on the 21st...sorry no refunds on
season ski passes.
