"Sidelined: Concussions in Sports"
Concussions do long-term damage to memory and cognitive ability,
according to the latest research. An
upcoming KVIE
documentary highlights the dangers of sports-related
concussions, and today we'll talk with Kelly Peterson,
three-time Emmy Award-winning documentary producer,
George
Visger, author of "
Concussion Rules" and former San Francisco
49er, and Doug Cosbie, former Dallas Cowboy.
Square Photography From its introduction in
the 1920s via the clunky metal Rollei camera to Instagram, a photo
sharing phone app, square photos have been around for a very long
time. There's a certain intrigue to square photos that rectangular
images lack, and here to talk with us about this mysterious beauty
is
Nicholas
Wray, Sacramento photographer and
Instagram extraordinaire, and Rebecca Gregg,
lead curator of
XII: Square exhibit, a
juried selection of square photographs at the
Viewpoint
Gallery in Sacramento.
Kushman by the Bottle Just in time for the
end of the holidays, Capital Public Radio's resident wine expert
(and occasional guest host)
Rick Kushman joins us for the next installment
of "Kushman by the Bottle," with advice on sparkling wines, which
aren't just for celebrations.
Kushman's Sparkling Wine
Recommendations:
La Marca Proseco ($15): This Italian sparkling is
fresh, a little frothy, and seems a tiny bit sweet because of the
fruit. A crowd pleaser.
Domaine Chandon Brut Classic and Domaine Carneros Taittinger
Brut (Both $20-ish): Both are vibrant and clean, and both have
mouthful of fruit. Of the two, I'm a bigger fan of the Domaine
Carneros Brut and its soft, yeasty undertones.
Schramsberg Blanc de Bland ($30): This is the top
American-owned sparkling wine house and this wine is rich and round
but still bright.
Piper Heidsieck Champagne Brut ($34): Everything a
genuine Champagne should be. It hits the sweet spot between the dry
crispness of French sparklers and the richer fruit flavors
Americans love.
Veuve Clicquot Brut ($42): This is a go-to Champagne
for lots of people. Starts with apples, pears and hints of bread
and yeast, then finishes crisp and clean.
