Starting Tuesday an Australian artist and local volunteers will be painting 60 Sacramento trees blue.
Ray Tretheway is with the Sacramento Tree Foundation. He says the temporary art display was selected for funding to draw attention to global deforestation, "You walk by these trees on 13th and J. I walk by them ever day. You don't think about them. Well, you're going to stop dead in your tracks when they're this vibrant blue. And we have a couple of educational signs out there talking about what are these trees doing for us."
Twenty of the trees are in the ground. Forty more are in buckets and will be scattered around town.
Konstantin Dimopolous is the artist. He has also painted trees blue in Australia, Canada and Seattle.
The Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Council and Sactown Magazine are sharing the $25,000 cost of the blue-tree project.
