City of Woodland has taken another step towards using Sacramento River water as its primary source of drinking water. The City held a groundbreaking of a new water storage and treatment facility Tuesday.
Woodland's well water already exceeds Selenium limits. Woodland City Councilman Bill Marble says the City will likely violate more water quality standards in 2016 if the new treatment plant and a separate water intake facility are not built, "We have ever-increasing amounts of nitrates in our water. Hexavalent Chromium is an issue. Our drinking water has many issues that other communities face. Woodland and Davis both have had to close wells because of high concentration of nitrates in the water."
The price tag for the project is a quarter-billion dollars. But, that assumes the City of Davis will partner with the City of Woodland. If not, the project will be significantly downsized.
