Earthquake Regularity Two earthquakes of magnitudes 4.4 and 4.5
surprised Southern California late Tuesday and early
Wednesday. The United States Geological Survey says the
seismic activity is "normal" for the time and place.
Earthquakes, although seemingly random, actually occur with more
regularity than we believe. At least that's what Glenn
Biasi, a researcher with the University of Nevada, Reno, has
recently discovered. He has just finished studying the
regularity of magnitude 8 earthquakes along the Alpine Fault in New
Zealand.
Olympic History Olympic historian Bill Mallon has written more than two dozen
books on the subject and is a founding member and past-president of
the International Society of Olympic Historians and former editor
of the ISOH journal, Journal of Olympic History. Mallon is an
orthopedic surgeon whose life-long interest in the Olympic Games
became a second career while he was in medical school.
