Parts of the land around Lake Tahoe are under attack…by invasive weeds.
Flavia Sortelet is with the League To Save Lake Tahoe. The league is one of the organizers of Tuesday's weed-pulling event in the Tahoe Keys, "We're trying to control these target species like the bull thistle so that they don't colonize throughout the entire basin. The bull thistle is a very poor quality wildlife plant, so that can impact wildlife habitat significantly."
Sortelet says weeds like the bull thistle, oxeye daisy and yellow toadflax spread when their plentiful seeds are carried by wind, car, and nursery plants on occasion.
