The Olympic Games will not be returning to the Sierra or to any potential American venue in 2022. The United States Olympic Committee declined today to put forth a bid to the International Olympic Committee for any American site to host the games.
An exploratory committee from Reno, Tahoe, and Sacramento had hoped the U.S. committee would consider supporting a California-Nevada partnership for 2022. The USOC says it will focus on 2024 and 2026 bids instead.
The USOC refused to submit bids while it was negotiating a profit-sharing agreement with the International Olympic Committee. That agreement was finalized last week.
Squaw Valley hosted the Games in 1960.
