Democratic Assemblyman Gil Cedillo is a long-time immigrants' rights advocate. He says he's glad the court struck down several parts of Arizona's law….including one requiring immigrants to carry registration papers:
Cedillo:"Very pleased that we have a constitution that doesn't respond to the hysteria of the day."
The court upheld a controversial provision that allows officers to check the immigration status of people they arrest for other reasons. That pleased Tea Party Assemblyman Tim Donnelly:
Donnelly: "I think there's going to be a lot of pressure to make this a state law in California."
