New Heart Surgery The federal Food and Drug
Administration has recently approved a new kind of heart
surgery where the chest doesn't need to be opened - instead, a team
of doctors threads a catheter up the femoral artery (at your hip)
and into your heart, then they push an artificial valve up that
same path and use a balloon to open up the failing valve and
replace it with another. All this without opening the chest. We'll
talk about it with two doctors who've done the first cases in our
region to find out how the technique works and how effective it
is.
Christian Kiefer Local professor, poet and
musician Christian Kiefer is releasing his debut novel
"The Infinite Tides." The book tells
the story of star astronaut who returns to earth to learn he's been
abandoned by his family.
