Future Arena Plans We'll look at
highlights from the Sacramento City Council's
Tuesday meeting as the city looks ahead to the possible future
of a downtown arena.
Titanic Cruise Follow Up Davis resident
Joan Randall's family was the only intact
steerage family to survive. Randall has just returned from
a 100th anniversary Titanic Memorial Cruise that sailed to the
sight of the shipwreck. Joan will be speaking about the
cruise and her family at the DMTC Performing Arts Center in Davis April 25.
New Mammogram Technology Radiological Associates of Sacramento is the
first local provider to offer three-dimensional mammograms,
believed to do a better job of detecting breast cancer in dense
tissue. Local health systems that compete with the
independent radiology group say they have the necessary equipment
but aren't paying the $150,000 to $200,000 required to upgrade to
3-D scans - yet. The local debate is an
indication of a high-stakes, high-priced medical arms race in a
competitive industry in which providers carefully weigh clinical
pros and cons, cost and alternatives before springing for the
latest technology. Consumer demand for the latest tools,
especially for fighting cancer, but is the new technology
affordable and accessible to everyone?
The Legendary Tuskegee Aviators The California Museum in Sacramento is now
showing an exhibit celebrating the legendary Tuskegee
Aviators called "Tuskegee: Journey to Flight". It is
about the African American men and women who broke barriers as both
aviation heroes during WWII and champions of equality.
Although they are well-known for their heroism during WWII,
the Tuskegee Airmen are often overlooked for their
significant achievements in the fight against discrimination.
A movie was made of their story called "Red
Tails". Their California Chapter is in Sacramento and has
four remaining members; they hold a reunion every year. We'll
ask Walter Suggs, the Chapter President and Lenard Yates about
their personal stories.
