It's busy at the Franchise Tax Board. Daniel Tahara with the F-T-B says about 11-and-a-half million Californians have filed their returns - leaving roughly four million to go. Most of those will be filed electronically. Tahara says the F-T-B has hired 700 seasonal staffers to help out:
Tahara: "Right now It is very hectic and crazy. We're getting incoming mail, sorting returns and processing payments and we have a ton of people out here so our parking lot's full."
Tahara says they'll work overtime and weekends through the end
of the month. He says tax experts are also available via
telephone- but the wait times can be up to two hours at this time
of year. He says they also have a live chat option at the
F-T-B website. He says there, you'll probably get your
question answered within a few minutes. Last year's average
refund was just over 800 bucks.
