Save Mart President Steve Junqueiro believes more than 30,000 customers have bought placards to support the pools.
JUNQUEIRO: "Absolutely wall-papered some of our stores which indicates the level of interest and support we're getting from our customers and the community."
Despite those appearances, donations are lagging.
Savemart will match every donation dollar for dollar up to 500 thousand dollars. But, so far only 56 thousand dollars have been donated. Money can also be raised by "Liking" the Save Our Schools page on Facebook.
Junqueiro hopes the corporate community will step up
shortly. With donations and matching funds, a million dollars
would help keep six pools open for the summer. The city would
still need to find another 700 thousand dollars to keep the rest of
the pools open.
