SOUL

Philosophers and clerics continue to argue the existence of the man's soul. I hold neither of these vocations but can deem irrefutably that soul exists in man, including a few of the men on this week's playlist.

Mayer Hawthorne, sure and Gil Scott-Heron definitely but I wasn't expecting such a soulful offering by The Rapture. The band's new album In The Grace Of Your Love has a nice underpinning of R&B I never associated with the group. Tracks like "Miss You" and "Never Die Again" hold my interest MUCH more than the band's previous outings. This week Off Air starts with In The Grace Of Your Love 's closer "It Takes Time To Be A Man" which competes with the street-latin "Come Back To Me" for my favorite track on the record.

Another great new find is Stripes by Steven A. Clark.  I was hipped to his video for Angel of Death earlier this week and was wowed.

It isn't all slow groves and plinky pianos this week (see: Casiokids, Paul F. Tompkins) but for those of you into it I think you'll find some of the best modern soul artists the genre has to offer.
