One of the bills will let schools like Marshall Elementary in the city of Fowler build new solar panels. It's part of a program called the California Solar Initiative that uses surcharges on gas and electric bills to fund projects. Brown didn't come up with the program himself, but says it's a good one:
Brown: "My predecessor, Arnold Schwarzenegger - he conceived and pushed the idea of the solar initiative. I'm carrying it on. And that's really important that politicians come and go, but good ideas continue."
Another measure extends an incentive program for installing clean energy technologies. The third requires the Department of Fish and Game to expedite the permitting process for renewable energy projects.
The governor's office says Brown will act on more measures Friday in San Francisco that it calls "critical to job creation."
