The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency voted against the biomass project at Kings Beach because of noise concerns. The plan called for trucks to take forest waste to a burning facility to turn it into energy, with minimal pollution. Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes supported the Kings Beach site.
HOLMES: "It'd be a heck of a lot less than than burning it and that is what the Forest Service was doing. They would pile it on big slash piles and then burn it. That creates air pollution and also falls into the lake when it goes over the lake. So, it's just a cleaner way to do it and plus it provides alternative energy."
The county will now look at the Cabin Creek site near the Tahoe Truckee waste transfer station. The Cabin Creek site will not require approval by the TRPA. But, Holmes says the move increases the cost of the plant and delays its development by a year.
