Latinos are twice as likely to use their phones to regularly connect compared to whites according to a new Public Policy Institute of California survey. Dean Bonner with the PPIC says Latinos online phone use has doubled in 3 years.
BONNER: "The narrowing of the digital divide has started to happen, but they are still almost 20 points less likely to having a broad-band connection at home. Connecting via mobile devices is great, but there are limitations to doing things on a Blackberry or a Droid or an iPhone."
Ninety-three percent of Californians now say they own a cell phone. Cell phone access to the internet was up significantly for all races. Fifty-seven percent of blacks use their phones to go online… the most of any group. Fifty-six percent of everyone polled said high-speed broadband should be a priority of the federal government.
