Greg Mcculoch and a group of friends came from Sacramento with high hopes of seeing some of the worlds' greatest riders like Andy Schleck and Levi Lepheimer tackle the terrain around Lake Tahoe. They were so pumped up by the race they decided to ride around the lake in the snow prior to the scheduled start.
Mcculoch: It was quite dicey, coming down the Rubicon into
Meek's Bay, snow on the road. We were just trying to keep a steady
speed and keep from going over.
Mcculoch discovered the same thing that led race officials to
cancel the race.
Mcculoch: It was as dicey as I have seen.
Race officials will try again this morning with a 133 mile leg
scheduled to go from Squaw Valley to Sacramento. But that stage may
have to be altered because of lingering snow and ice.
