The City Council last night officially repealed the controversial ordinance that would've charged out-of-town motorists hundreds of dollars for responding to a vehicle crash.
In a 6-2 vote, the City Council moved to cancel what critics call a "crash tax." It would've been levied in a crash where the fire department had to respond.
The council originally passed the ordinance in January. But earlier this month, some council members decided to vote again.
The unpopular tax has been debated in other cities. At least six states ban local crash taxes.
