There's no deal yet, but Democratic Senate Leader Darrell Steinberg says he's preparing for a budget vote this week. He says the status of talks changes by the hour:
"These are very serious matters but to be a little light about it, I think they're very far apart and very close. Everyone knows what the subject matters are and we all know what is a reasonable center and that's what we're aiming for."
There were reports that talks between five GOP Senators and Governor Jerry Brown had broken down over the weekend. However, at least one of those Senators, Anthony Cannella, says he's still willing to talk. But when asked about whether he'd vote for the Governor's plan to extend taxes in exchange for reforms:
"We are so early in the process that's like asking the San Francisco Giants who's going to pitch in the World Series."
