Owner George Karpaty says he likes the glitzy venues already on K Street, such as Cosmopolitan Cabaret and Ella Restaurant - and he thinks his new attractions will contribute to K Street's resurgence.
Karpaty: "Density brings density in nightlife. The more you have, the more people want to come. They can bounce around and have options."
Karpaty is looking forward to the redevelopment of the nearby 700 and 800 blocks of K Street. Those projects are intended to attract people to live right down the street. In the meantime…
Karpaty: "We come from San Francisco. There's restaurants that are in alleyways tucked away in a basement. If you're good, word of mouth, people will find you. They will come if it's worth coming."
Pizza Rock opens Friday. Dive Bar and District 30 are scheduled to open next week. All three are on K Street between 10th and 11th.
Karpaty and developer David Taylor used millions in city redevelopment funds to build the project.
