October was the second-worst month of 2010 home sales in Sacramento County. Only July was worse. It was also the second-worst October in the last 14 years, trailing only 2007.
LePage: "We're still feeling the impact of the home buyer tax credits earlier in the year."
But that's not the only reason for the big drop, says Andrew LePage. He's with the real estate tracking firm DataQuick, which is releasing the numbers.
LePage: "What we think we're not seeing are the typical discretionary buyers - people who are interested in moving, who would like to move for whatever reason, but don't feel like now's a good time - in many cases because they have concerns about their jobs or household income levels."
And LePage says some people are waiting to buy because they think prices will drop even more. The median price in Sacramento County sank once again in October - for the fourth straight month.
