Anthony Wright is with Health Access California. He says
California consumers will benefit from the provisions of the
federal health care law that begin today.
"There's a new range of patient protections that provide new
security for patients to know that their coverage will be there for
them when they need it, will provide new options for people who
right now have trouble getting coverage."
Wright says some of the major changes include the fact that
children cannot be denied coverage based on a preexisting
condition, and young adults can stay on their parents plan until
they turn 26. The practice of retroactively revoking
someone's health care coverage is also now banned.
Wright says the Governor still has a slew of health care bills
to sign off on, many of which would make California's adoption of
the new health laws easier.
