"Empty Pleasures" A UC Davis professor has
written a new book about the history of artificial sweeteners in
America. It examines the creation of Splenda and NutriSweet and how
something once seen as a healthy alternative to sugar - and pushed
as such by magazines and the food market - is perhaps not so
healthy after all. Carolyn de la Pena tells you about "Empty
Pleasures."
Mindy Cooper Broadway actress, director and
choreographer Mindy Cooper has just finished the first UC Davis
Department of Theatre & Dance summer intensive. To celebrate
the program, the department opens "The 25th Annual Putnam County
Spelling Bee" on Thursday. We'll talk with Cooper, who has twice
held the title of UC Davis Granada Artist-in-Residence, about the
production.
"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" opens at 8 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 16th and runs through Sunday, Sept. 25th at the

Rendahl has made a name for herself writing chick-lit novels. With
her latest book, she tries on a new genre: paranormal adventure
romance. She'll tell you about "Don't Kill the Messenger" and why

band that plays ambient electronic pop, is performing Friday at
Concerts 4 Charity at The Crest. The band recently released a new
record, and is nominated for two SAMMIES. You'll meet the band and
