It's too soon for firm numbers.  But the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority says South Tahoe's tourism industry probably got around a 5-to-10 percent boost this summer.  Executive Director Carol Chaplin says the economic recovery - however modest - has helped.

Chaplin: "We're getting people that really want to get out and have getaways.  They are still a little hesitant to spend to the level that they used to, but they are beginning to enjoy themselves again."

It was a similar story at the other end of the lake.  Pettit Gilwee is with the North Lake Tahoe Visitors Bureau.

Gilwee: "Everyone has seen an uptick this summer, some larger than others.  Lodging did a higher uptick than, say, retail.  We did see a stronger hiking crowd this summer but we saw less golfers."

Gilwee says depending on the industry, business this summer rose anywhere from three to 15 percent.
