Selfish Prayer During his time in Afghanistan, flight medic Emmett Spraktes learned that saving the lives of his fellow soldiers meant he’d have to get into some ugly face-to-face conflicts with Army officials. Armed with evidence and eyewitness accounts of bloody battles, Spraktes and fellow medics forced the Army to change flight medic training standards and double the survival rate of wounded American soldiers. Spraktes has written a book about his battle with the Army and his time as a flight medic in Afghanistan. It’s called “Selfish Prayer,” and he joins us to talk more about the changes he spearheaded.
