Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching and so too the need for turkeys at food banks.
The Stockton Emergency Food Bank is hoping for enough donations to put a Thanksgiving meal on the table for 2,000 families this Thanksgiving. Second Harvest Food Bank in Manteca needs 3,200 turkeys for this Thanksgiving and Christmas to supply food pantries, low-income families, and homeless shelters in the Mother Lode, and San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties.
Rudy Valencia with Second Harvest says buses will be at several local supermarkets this weekend to take donations, from turkeys to all the fixings.
“Anyone can walk in during the week and drop them off, but we’re going to be there in the supermarket with the bus trying to stuff it, so it’s a big thing.”
Valencia said the bus makes donations an event for people in the community to rally around.
“You just see a lot of people have a big heart and they want to help out," Valencia said. "People come out with their families and they bring little ones so they understand at a young age what they’re doing to help out.”
The buses will be at Rancho San Miguel in Stockton on Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday at the Food 4 Less stores in Stockton and Manteca, and Mar-Val Foods in Escalon.
