Sergeant Jim Byers says someone appears to have fired a small-caliber gun at the El Dorado High School bus. It was on a winding road near Camino, in the Sierra foothills about 50 miles east of Sacramento. Byers says the bus was heading westbound around 2:30 in the afternoon as it passed a dark green Jeep Cherokee.
Byers: “The driver saw a muzzle flash and the windshield was hit right in front of her, just below her, lower windshield. She was able to maintain control, pulled over just down the road and called 911.”
The bus driver was sprayed with broken glass, but the bullet did not penetrate the windshield.
Byers says the shooting appears to be a random attack. He’s asking anyone who might have witnessed the shooting on the heavily-traveled road to contact the El Dorado County sheriff’s department.
