Chief Executive Officer Greg Van Dusen says that could help boost the local economy by filling up hotels, restaurants and shops.
“We don’t have any major destinations here as yet in terms that reflect our lifestyle – healthy, athletic, things like that. And all over the country you see major complexes with lots of fields or lots of courts, depending on if you’re looking at indoor or outdoor sports.”
Van Dusen points to regions like Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley. He says these kinds of sports centers generated $82 billion dollars nationally in 2007.
Placer Valley Tourism has asked two-dozen consulting companies to come up with feasibility studies that would include details on venue sites and financing plans. They hope to award a contract by the end of April.
