Starting July 1st, tolls for the Antioch, Benicia, Carquinez, Dumbarton, Richmond and San Mateo bridges will rise from four dollars to five. The Bay Bridge is a bit more complicated: Drivers will pay six dollars during major weekday commute times and four dollars the rest of the day. Weekend tolls will rise to five dollars.
The other major change is for carpools. They’re free right now – but in July they’ll cost two dollars and 50 cents. Truck drivers will see the steepest increases – but those hikes will start a year later and be phased in gradually to give the struggling industry more time to adjust.
The Bay Area Toll Authority approved the increases Wednesday. The extra funds will pay for seismic retrofits … and offset reduced revenues from declining bridge traffic.
The Golden Gate Bridge is owned and operated by an independent district, so it is not affected.
