Democratic state Sen. Kevin De León has authored a measure that would create a new state education fund.

California Senate leader Kevin de León says voters should reject U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s re-election bid. He says the 84-year-old incumbent’s moderate tone and record are out of touch with the increasingly liberal state she’s represented for the last quarter-century.

In an interview with Capital Public Radio, de León criticized Feinstein for saying she hoped that Donald Trump would become a good president, and for not doing enough to advocate for DACA recipients.

“This is not about ageism; any election should never be about age. It’s about having new energy and it’s about having new ideas that reflect the California of today. I think California has changed dramatically in the past 25 years. I do believe it’s time to usher in a new generation of leadership,” de León said.

De León also said he believes Trump has committed impeachable offenses that make former President Richard Nixon look like a “choir boy.”

Polls show de León trailing Feinstein by a wide margin. Her campaign has dismissed him as a termed-out politician looking for new job.

He appears as part of our ongoing series of conversations with candidates for the U.S. Senate in California.
