A mega-resort could be in Manteca’s near future, and its city council may take a major step in that direction with a vote on Tuesday. The deal could mean hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars in revenue to the city.
Great Wolf Lodge has about a dozen resorts across the U.S. and Canada, attracting millions of visitors each year to their indoor water parks.
For years, the resort chain has considered Manteca as its next location and the city council could agree to an exclusive negotiating agreement that could lead to a $250 million, 500-room hotel.
Manteca Chamber of Commerce Director Joann Beattie said the influx of a half million tourists each year would be huge economically.
“Just jobs alone, they’re going to hire 500 people," Beattie said. "Manteca will get a shot at some of those jobs and then the revenue it would bring in from taxes.”
Beattie said the location near the Big League Dreams ballpark is ready to go for construction with the infrastructure already in place and could break ground by September.
