Separate Spines describe their sound as "throat kick" pop, but their ambitious new record explores a full spectrum of emotion and tone. The Spines recorded "Cut Up The Rainbow" at The Dock with Lance Jackman.

"The simplest explanation is just 'electronic rock,'" says drummer Buddy Hale. "I try and keep it simple."

"We try to keep it simple, but it is a lot more than just electronics, especially when we add in drums and guitar amps," says keyboardist Zach Hake, who also performs with PRVLGS.

Singer Sydney Jones says, "I just think its a genre that makes you feel like you maybe just lost your mind and you don't know what you heard."

"It's a totally new experience for me, being in Separate Spines," says bassist Rachel Freund. "I've been a clarinetist all my life, so this is a departure for me."
