(AP) - Authorities say a Modesto police sergeant died after being struck by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle on a city street.
Modesto Police Chief Galen Carroll says in a video posted on social media that a sergeant was killed Tuesday evening but did not identify him.
Carroll says the California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
CHP spokesman Thomas Olsen
tells the Modesto Bee the sergeant had been with the department since 2012 and before that had served with the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office. Olsen didn't release the sergeant's name.
Olsen says the driver showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on the scene. The car's driver was not identified.
