Monday night, the Sacramento Regional Transit Board of Directors will vote on a new compensation package for Henry Li, the agency's general manager and CEO. Supporters say Li, who was hired last year, has helped improve service on buses and trains and that the agency is doing better financially. But not everyone's happy board members are even considering the pay hike.
"We have every expectation they're going to pass this terrible idea tonight," says Craig Powell with the watchdog group "Eye on Sacramento."
Powell says taxpayers continue to bear the brunt of rising operating costs at RT -- "And until Mr. Li brings those under control, he is not deserving of a hefty pay hike."
Under the proposed compensation package, Li would receive a 33 percent raise. His current total compensation is $285,000 dollars. It would go up to $379,000.
